When you commission Sami B you are commissioning an experienced photographer dedicated to capturing natural moments of your children at that exact moment in time.

Whether your children are precious newborns, toddlers amazed at how sands feels between their toes, tweens already at school and wise beyond their years or teens on the brink of adulthood Sami B%u2019s goal as a photographer is to celebrate children at every age, to capture their essence and showcase their personalities in her images.

We like to involve you as much as possible in the process after all we are creating these artworks for you and your family to cherish for generations to come.

BEFORE THE SHOOT

When you are thinking about booking a session think about what time of day your kids are happiest and what your routine is normally like. Typically if we are shooting outdoors we either do a morning shoot (before 9am) or an afternoon shoot (after 4pm). If we are shooting indoors it doesn%u2019t matter so much as long as your home has good natural light. The most important thing though is that we have happy kids to play with rather than having a shoot during nap time.

After we%u2019ve booked in a date & time we%u2019ll line up a pre-consult between you and Sami B. This may be over the phone or in person whichever works best for you. During the pre-consult Sami is mostly interested in getting to know you and a little bit about your kids. What their interests are? If there are any particular shots you really want to capture %u2013 maybe your son is a basketball star and you want to get a series of him dunking. Maybe your little girl loves to dress up as a fairy. She%u2019ll go over all of this with you and help you plan your shoot. She%u2019ll also discuss with you what you are hoping to achieve with the shoot %u2013 are you after a gorgeous shot of your daughter for her bedroom, a family shot for the living room, perhaps you%u2019re after a series of shots for a family album or wall display. Pre-planning your shoot means you get to be involved in the creative process and the direction your shoot will take.

THE SHOOT

The most important thing to remember is there are no rules and no expectations of you or your kids. The shoot will run a lot smoother when everyone is allowed to run, play, jump, laugh, sing and generally have a good time rather than being encouraged to smile or sit still. Even if we are trying to get a gorgeous portrait of your child smiling at the camera there%u2019ll be a lot of play involved rather than saying CHEESE!

The shoots Sami B specialise in can generally be broken down into either a lifestyle shoot (kids only) or a family shoot (with parents). If you are after a family shoot we wholly encourage parents to get involved. Play with your kids the way you play with them at home. Horseback rides, raspberries, tickles - anything at all that gets you and the kids interacting. It%u2019s a lot more natural that way! But if you are after a lifestyle shoot we usually ask parents to watch from a distance that way the kids are looking to Sami for a response when they do something funny or they are telling a story whatever the case may be.

Shoots generally last for 1-2 hours depending on the style of shoot and how many people are involved. Plenty of time to capture a lot of variety and stop for drink & snack breaks. We don%u2019t limit the shoot at all. If everyone is having a good time we%u2019ll keep going until Sami feels we%u2019ve got everything we%u2019re after. At the end of the shoot you%u2019ll be given a little goody bag which contains a full price list, some wall gallery ideas and information to take home and go over before your ordering session. It%u2019s a good idea to think about what wall space you want to create artwork for and who you might like to give gift prints to. You don%u2019t want to forget about the grandparents %u2013 they always love new photos of their grandchildren.

AFTER THE SHOOT

Within two weeks of your shoot we%u2019ll be in touch to schedule your ordering session. This is the first time you%u2019ll see your images so it%u2019s important that all the decision makers are present. We help you go through the images and select your favourites. Once we%u2019ve narrowed it down we%u2019ll go through and design artwork for your home whether it be framed wall prints, a storyboard or an heirloom album. Because the ordering session is usually held in your home and with the help of technology Sami can actually show you exactly what the images will look like on your walls. Orders are placed on the day of your ordering session with a minimum 25% deposit. You can expect to receive prints, framed artwork and canvas art within 2-3 weeks and albums within 6-8 weeks.
